Hola chicas (Hello ladies)

Sending greetings from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Another full day...a little less driving today but I seem more tired than before.

Day 5: Amarillo Texas to Albuquerque New Mexico

Heading west we went to Sante Fe, stopped for lunch...first time having a grilled cheese loaded with green chilies and bacon and tomato and a BLT New Mexico style, with cream cheese, and sliced avocado. Very tasty!
I am not real familiar with the state of New Mexico, but some things I expected...

Different vegetation, wide open spaces, cattle, sand....
What I didn't expect was this ...

SNOW! I know we were told to expect snow and rain mix today, but it was such a nice day I was sure they must have made a mistake. We did see snow along the side of the hi way in some places as our elevation changed, but when we took a tram car up Mount Sandia, it was not long before we got to see some of the white stuff. What is a nice day in the city of Albuquerque is not necessarily a nice day up the mountain...I am told they are expecting almost a foot of snow. This apparently is not unusual...I think I better brush up on my geography , because I was thinking HOT in New Mexico...who knew?
But you know what really warmed my heart?

Yup! You guessed it...a quilt shop stop. This charming shop was featured in Quilt Sampler magazine in 2005. Lots of very different fabric, regional prints and patterns.
Have a look...

I purchased this bag pattern, and can hardly wait to make it...maybe for our next trip??? We'll see.

Here is what I splurged on today.

Some labels, spool wranglers, new ripper with a cool added feature that helps get rid of all the little thread bits after ripping, a new bag pattern, and another basket pattern, and of course a bit of fabric.
I also saw the cutest cartoon, and to all my family and friends with a tattoo, please don't take offence, it just struck me funny and I wanted to share.

Now I leave you with a parting shot. Lest you think I don't know how to focus my camera while taking photos, this is how most of them are taken...

I could ask Mr.O to pull over but there are only so many hours in a day and if I spend too much time focussing my camera, it takes time away from my shop hop. There is a method to my madness. Night night....

  1. I'm beginning to think that this is the perfect way to travel....read your blog post every morning, enjoy the sights & your Quilt Shop stops and there's been no packing involved! As for the snow....well maybe they just want you to feel at home - because if you were home you'd be in the middle of a two day storm.

Like Sue mentioned about the storm, school has been cancelled three days this week so far. The snow is still coming down... You are so Blessed to be where you are right now.. Keep enjoying..

  3. SO glad your trip is going well and you are locating those Quilt Shops!! After all, what's a trip without a few new Quilt Shops??!! Take heart - you'll soon be away from the possibility of any more snow - as long as you stay in southern AZ- you'll certainly see some if you go up to the Canyon... or Mt. Lemmon in Tucson...

  4. Oh you look so cold in the snow storm! But in spite of the storm, it sounds as though you're having a great trip. As well as finding some wonderful quilt shops. Safe travels, my friend.

  6. I would not have expected snow in New Mexico either! I think of desert, spinifex grass, cactus and red sand.
