As you may have guessed, we are now in Italy. We have spent the last 2 days in Venice, and just for the record, I don't want to leave! I am especially in love with the Venetian island of Bourano...sun washed colours, colourful houses, little shops virtually dripping with lace, amazing little cafes and friendly people are just a few of the charming things about Bourano. I know I have missed a couple days and we have done so much in those days there is just no way to do justice to all we have seen an done, but here is the mini version...we stayed 2 nights in the mountain village of Engleberg in the Swiss Alps near Lucerne; we climbed Mt. Pilatus, well, we didn't actually climb the mountain...we took a series of cable cars/gondolas to the top of the mountain and then we actually climbed the last 50 or so steps to the summit. The view was amazing as you can probably imagine. We took a boat cruise on Lake Lucerne after spending the day sightseeing and shopping in the city of Lucerne. It didn't take long to discover that you need a VERY LARGE suitcase full of Swiss francs ( or a very large Swiss bank account) if you intend to stay any amount of time in Switzerland. Think Rolex, Cartier, Gucci many other big name items...it's all there. Switzerland has the highest standard of living in all of Europe...it cost me approximately $16 or 17 dollars to post 6 postcards! Beautiful country though...have a look....
Next we were on our way to Austria with a short stop in the tiny country of Lichtenstein. More castles and mountains and of course a visit to the famous Swarovsky Crystal show room. A traditional Austrian meal of schnitzel and strudel along with wonderful local entertainment.
Crystal staircases, chandeliers, jewelry of the movie stars and even crystal in the bathrooms!
After Innsbruck Austria, we journeyed on to Venice, Italy. Magical, chaotic, fun and so much more. So far we have tasted the local foods, pizza, pasta, gelato, espresso; had gondola rides, visited St. marks Square, Murano glass blowing foundry, seen Venetian lace being made and much, much more. A few more pics and we leave for Rome in the morning.
There is so much more but I am very sleepy... Bouna notte, ciao.
Enjoying your updates.....those stairs are something else....a set of those would certainly brighten up the place!!!
